We just returned from the Summer Fancy Food Show—a huge specialty food trade show in New York. We had a great time at the show, for lots of reasons: we made new friends and saw old ones, met new retailers and took several orders (always a good thing!).
We especially enjoyed working as a family, which might have been the best part of the event. Two of our three sons worked the booth with us, and we had a great time being together! While our sons are now adults, in some ways it felt like we were all back on a long car ride together with the boys in the back seat, picking on each other. The difference was that the boys were picking on my husband this time around! We laughed and laughed … we may have had more fun than anyone else at the show! It certainly has been wonderful to be able to turn our family favorites into a family business!
As a part of the trade show each year, select products are honored with a "sofi" which stands for Specialty Outstanding Food Innovation, and is a bit like the Oscars for the food world. We were, of course, delighted to win a Silver sofi Award for our newest flavor, Lemon Sugar! Getting an industry accolade for something you love to do is just out of this world!
And just this week, we entered the "My Story, My Ad" contest sponsored by sofi's parent organization, the Specialty Food Association. The contest is by popular vote, and the winner receives a coveted ad campaign. While traveling is always fun, we're glad to be back in our Charleston, SC kitchen today, baking more cookies!
