We’re avid Garden & Gun Magazine readers … soaking up everything from the in-depth perspectives on Southern personalities (some we’re lucky enough to call friends) to their signature events like Garden & Gun Jubilee. One of the many things we love  about the magazine is its ability to have a little fun. Years ago, they stole March Madness headlines with their introduction of the Southern Food bracket. We loved following the “championship” but best of all were the readers’ comments.

So, with that as our inspiration, we decided to create our own cookie bracket … a little something we're calling Grey Ghost Flavor Madness. During baking hours, we’re constantly in debate over what our next flavor will be … from the simplicity of a shortbread cookie to a signature Hurricane Cookie (a tasty ode to our Grey Ghost legend combining oatmeal, chocolate chips, pecans and coconut). We’d love to hear from you! Please chime in via email or with a comment below or on our Facebook and Instagram accounts to let us know which cookies are your winners! We’ll select one lucky person at random to receive one dozen of each variety!

In the meantime, like us, if you’re popping from one party to the next these days — first Super Bowl Sunday then the Oscars and now basketball — you never want to show up empty handed! When we’re celebrating with friends and family, there’s always two requests: why our cookies (of course) and my signature hummus layer dip. True confession: I overheard this recipe while trying on clothes several years ago. I had an event to go to that night and made it … and it’s been the requested dip ever since!

Hummus Layer Dressing Room Dip

Ingredients
1 container of good quality hummus (I prefer roasted red pepper)
1 large tomato
1 large cucumber
feta cheese
pita chips

Preparation
Take any flavor of hummus that you prefer and spread it in the bottom of a serving dish.
Seed and dice one large tomato and one large cucumber.
Top the hummus with the cucumbers, then the tomatoes.
Sprinkle liberally with feta cheese.
Serve with pita chips.

It’s a decadent-tasting dip, but healthy at the same time.

Thanks to our friends at icookbook.com for the hummus layer dip image above.
